Recognizable sources and transformed forms

Abstraction can simplify, distort, or reorganize features from the visible world. Some abstract works retain recognizable sources; others do not depict identifiable objects. Reduced detail alone does not explain a work’s purpose. Compare what is retained, changed, or omitted and ask how those choices shape the experience of the image.
