Lighting, height, spacing, labels, and surrounding works affect how an artwork is encountered. A reproduction can change scale, surface appearance, or color compared with the original. Distinguish features of the work from effects of its display. When comparing reproductions, check what each image can and cannot show rather than assuming they are identical experiences.
