Following a line

A line can record an edge, trace a gesture, or lead attention through an image. Its width, direction, and continuity affect how it appears. A contour follows a boundary; repeated short strokes can suggest a rough surface. Describe the actual marks before assuming that a particular kind of line always conveys one emotion.
