An image transferred from a surface

Printmaking commonly transfers an image from a prepared surface to another support. In relief printing, raised areas receive ink while cut-away areas usually do not. A direct relief impression normally reverses the design left to right. Planning the design should account for that reversal, especially when it includes lettering.
