Vivid and muted color

Saturation describes how vivid or muted a color appears. A vivid orange and a muted orange can differ in saturation while remaining in the same hue family. Saturation and value are separate properties, although changing materials may affect both. Describe the visible result rather than assuming that every vivid color is also light.
