The surface and its appearance

Actual texture is the physical surface of an object. Implied texture is a visual suggestion of a surface, such as a drawing that looks like rough bark. They need not match. A photograph of woven fabric can look textured even when printed on smooth paper. Looking and touching provide different kinds of information.
