When eclipses happen

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun and blocks the Sun for some observers. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into Earth’s shadow. The Moon’s orbit is tilted, so these alignments do not occur at every new or full Moon. Never look directly at the Sun without proper solar-viewing protection.
