Seeing beyond visible light

Visible light is one part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Radio waves, infrared, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays reveal different physical processes. Earth’s atmosphere blocks many wavelengths, so some observations require space telescopes. Combining wavelengths can reveal information that a visible-light image alone misses.
