Gravity and orbital motion

Gravity attracts objects with mass. In an orbit, an object’s motion carries it forward while gravity continually changes its direction. An astronaut in orbit is still under Earth’s gravity; apparent weightlessness occurs because the astronaut and spacecraft fall together. Being in space does not make gravity disappear.
