Stars and planets

Stars such as the Sun release energy through nuclear fusion in their cores. In visible light, the planets we see in our sky shine mainly by reflecting sunlight. Brightness alone does not tell you whether a point is a star or a planet, and planets can also emit their own infrared radiation.
