Star color and temperature

For ordinary stars, the shape of the emitted spectrum is related to surface temperature: hotter stars generally appear bluer and cooler stars redder. Dust can redden light on its way to us, and image processing can change displayed colors. Apparent brightness also depends on distance and size, so it is not a simple temperature scale.
