Electron flow in a galvanic cell

A galvanic cell converts energy from a spontaneous redox reaction into electrical work. Oxidation occurs at the anode, and reduction occurs at the cathode. Electrons travel through the external conductor from anode to cathode. An ionic connection, such as a salt bridge, helps maintain electrical neutrality inside the cell. It carries ions rather than replacing the external electron path. Without charge balance, sustained current is not possible.

Practice

In the external wire of a galvanic cell, which way do electrons flow?
