Make a comparison interpretable

To compare two designs, define the outcome and keep other relevant test conditions comparable. If paper bridge designs are tested over different spans, a load difference may reflect the span rather than the design. Repeat measurements when variation matters and record the setup. A fair comparison isolates the question as far as practical and acknowledges what was not controlled.
