Match a material to its task

Material choice depends on the task. A cover may need to be light, resist moisture, and tolerate bending. A material that performs well in one respect may perform poorly in another. Compare relevant properties under expected conditions rather than assuming that the hardest or most expensive material is always best. Shape and manufacturing method also affect the finished part.
