Compare competing benefits

A design may improve one objective while worsening another. A thicker cover might last longer but increase mass. This is a trade-off. Compare alternatives using the requirements that matter to users and record why an option was chosen. Meeting a preference does not justify violating a required limit. There may be several acceptable designs rather than one best design for every situation.
