Distinguish the aims of climate responses

Climate mitigation addresses the causes of climate change, for example by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Adaptation adjusts to actual or expected effects, for example by improving shade during hotter conditions. An action may support both, and its results depend on the setting. Describe the mechanism and evidence rather than assuming that any environmental action serves every climate objective.
