Set goals and track recovery

Ecological restoration assists the recovery of a degraded ecosystem. Planting alone does not establish success if water conditions, soil, or ongoing pressures prevent recovery. Define goals appropriate to the site, choose indicators, and monitor change over time. A recovered system may not exactly reproduce a past state, especially when surrounding conditions have changed.
