Connect upstream and downstream

A watershed is an area of land that drains toward a common outlet, such as a stream or lake. Rainfall moving across that land can carry soil and other materials into water. An activity away from the stream may therefore affect downstream conditions. Watershed boundaries follow drainage patterns rather than necessarily matching town boundaries.
