Compare subduction and collision

Convergent boundaries occur where plates approach each other. In subduction, one plate descends beneath another. When continental crust collides with continental crust, it can shorten and thicken, building mountains. Convergence does not produce the same landform everywhere; the types and history of the plates affect the result.
