Change rock without complete melting

Metamorphism changes existing rock through heat, pressure, and fluids while the rock remains largely solid. Minerals may grow or rearrange, producing new textures. Limestone can become marble. If material melts and later solidifies, the resulting rock is igneous. The distinction concerns how the new rock formed, not simply whether it experienced heat.
