The Cold War beyond two powers

The Cold War involved rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union, but other states and movements pursued their own goals. Decolonization, regional conflicts, nonalignment, and domestic politics shaped events. Calling it cold does not mean the period lacked wars or human casualties.
