From foraging to farming

Farming developed in several regions at different times. Many communities combined cultivation, animal keeping, hunting, and gathering. Food production could support larger settlements, but also involved hard work, new disease pressures, and vulnerability to failed harvests. It was not one sudden change shared by everyone.
