Mongol conquest and connections

Mongol expansion reshaped much of Eurasia through conquest, which caused destruction and displacement in many regions. Under Mongol rule, some long-distance connections also became easier for merchants and envoys. These effects differed by place and period; describing exchange alone would hide the costs of conquest.
