War, occupation, and genocide

The Second World War involved military expansion, occupation, and violence against civilians across many regions. Nazi Germany and its collaborators carried out the Holocaust, the genocide of six million Jews, alongside the persecution and murder of other groups. Studying military campaigns alone leaves out central human and political dimensions of the war.
