Attitude and atmosphere

Tone is the attitude conveyed by a voice toward its subject. Mood is the atmosphere or feeling the text creates for readers. They can interact without being identical. A narrator may describe an empty house with dry humor while the dark rooms and unexplained footsteps create unease.
