Percentages and discounts
Find percentages of quantities and calculate a sale price.
Percent means per hundred
To find a percentage of an amount, multiply the amount by the percentage divided by one hundred.
Worked example
20% of 60 = 60 × 20/100 = 12
Subtract the discount
A discount reduces the original price. Calculate the saving first, then subtract it from the price.
Worked example
25% off 80: 80 − 20 = 60
