Converting measurements
Convert lengths, masses, and capacities before calculating.
Use the unit relationship
To convert to a smaller unit, multiply by the number of smaller units in one larger unit. Divide when converting the other way.
Worked example
1 m = 100 cm; 2.4 m = 240 cm
Match units before adding
Values must use the same unit before you add or compare them. State the final unit so the number has a clear meaning.
Worked example
1.5 kg + 250 g = 1500 g + 250 g = 1750 g
Measure and convert
- Measure an object in centimetres and express its length in metres.
- Add 30 centimetres to your measurement, keeping the units consistent.
