Independent lines in combination

Counterpoint concerns the combination of distinct melodic lines. Each line has a shape of its own while interacting with the others. The parts may move in the same direction, opposite directions, or with one holding a pitch. Listening to each line separately and then together helps reveal both independence and coordination.
