Grouping the beats

Meter organizes beats into recurring patterns of stronger and weaker positions. A simple triple pattern groups three beats, often heard as a stronger first beat followed by two weaker ones. Our example repeats that accent pattern at an even speed. Meter is different from tempo: the grouping can stay the same when the beat becomes faster.
