Hear a musical unit

A musical phrase is a connected unit that can suggest an opening, continuation, or ending. Phrases need not all have the same length. Breaths, melodic shape, harmony, and pauses can help listeners recognize boundaries. A pause may support a boundary, but its meaning depends on what happens before and after it.
