Select what to focus on

Attention gives some information priority over other information. While reading in a busy room, you may follow the page and miss part of a nearby conversation. Missing something does not show that it was absent. Task demands, distractions, and expectations can affect what receives attention. Describe the situation before making judgments about a person.
