Group familiar information

Chunking organizes separate elements into meaningful groups. A familiar phrase can be handled as a unit instead of unrelated letters. Effective chunks depend on knowledge: an expert may recognize a pattern that is unfamiliar to a beginner. Grouping is most useful when the learner understands what connects the elements.
