Observe before explaining

Psychology studies behavior and mental processes using evidence. An observation describes what was recorded; an interpretation proposes what it means. A learner closes a book after a difficult question. That action is observable, but saying the learner has lost interest is an interpretation. They might instead be preparing to answer from memory.
