Hold and use information

Working memory supports holding information temporarily while using it, such as keeping intermediate results during mental arithmetic. Its demands depend on the task and prior knowledge. Written notes can reduce the amount that must be held at once. Difficulty with a demanding task does not by itself indicate a permanent limitation.
