Sociology examines social relationships, institutions, and patterns of life. A student missing an evening class is one experience. Asking whether bus schedules prevent many students from attending connects that experience to shared conditions. Individual choices still matter, but explaining a pattern requires looking beyond one person and comparing relevant evidence.
